Report

Report:Two evenly matched sides and so it proved to be. First on court were the two Cheshire vets players at #4 JD v Mike Potter. Always a great battle between these two. Great movement, pace and determination from both players throughout. A bit of local court knowledge saw JD over the line in an incredibly tight and exciting fifth. Overlapping this match on court 2 was the #2 match, Rhys v Toby. Some sublime touch play by Toby was countered by Rhys’ speed and fitness. Rhys looks to have stepped up a level from last season and is one to watch to cause a few upsets. Meanwhile back on court 1 Owain was striding around the court with his trademark efficiency of movement and accurate placement. A 3 0 scoreline didn’t do Eliga justice as he nearly took the 3rd game. Onto the #5 match and another of Wrexham’s junior players stepped up following the late failed fitness test of Ryan Lewis. Will was drenched with sweat and misted goggles compared to Mark’s cool, yet tanned demeanour. Some amazing retrieval from both players made for an an outstanding, clean hard fought contest. Will pushed himself hard to take the fifth. A unanimous player of the match performance. Last on, with anxiety increasing that the Chinese may not deliver after 10:30 was another Wrexham junior Josh Davies v the hard hitting James Pickles. Josh’s pre season hasn’t been at his best but the Hawarden Rangers centre half’s football training meant he produced a fine performance to cope with the onslaught from Pickles. In the end Pickle Power took the 5th. So an early win for Wrexham Brymbo. Alderly Edge will look to turn the tables on Wrexham in the second half. With Owain heading back over the English border with his pockets full of Chinese Spring rolls, the Welsh side is, ‘hungry like a wolf’ for next week’s match versus a top Cheetham Hill side. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
