Myself and Emily started the night off for the home team.

I always sing Emily's praises. Her quality for Warrington is always exceptional and she continued her impressive form (and after beating World No.9 Georgina Kennedy last week in PSL) with a flawless display of squash to thrash Bolly coach, Chris. Now in his second season in Div 1, Chris has struggled making the leap from dominating his second division opponents to working out how regularly win in this division, but Emily was borderline unplayable. Her drives were very tight to the side wall, she volleyed loads, lobbed very well when under pressure and fired in countless winners. The moment Em can transfer this form into the PSA she is going to fly up the rankings.

I struggled against an the impressive Canadian. Brett plays lovely simple squash and maintains a very calm demeanour on court throughout. Brett went out flying at the start of every game, often catching me out with unexpected attacks. Some games I would claw back the lead and some games I wouldn't! The numerous home crowd certainly enjoyed the close battle. I managed to save two match balls in the fourth game to squeeze us into a fifth but couldn't quite see out the match from 8-6 up in the fifth. Well played to Brett, and great new asset to Bollington and the league.

By the time I had come off court Rob Taylor had also followed on from Emily and won. Junior George certainly runs a lot and quickly but is still lacking the control and quality with his shots to put someone as 'seasoned' as Rob under pressure.

At No.1 James Earles put in a very impressive display against Lewis. James is a classy player. He has a lovely technique with a natural hold in his backswing, so he can be deadly around the middle and front of the court. He hits a few too many mistakes at times, but non-the-less a delight to watch. Lewis has had A LOT of travelling recently which takes its toll on a player, both mentally and physically. He tried to get into the match but became increasingly frustrated. James slows play down well with cross-court lobs from every area of the court followed by his deadly attacks. James was slightly too good and took the victory 3-0.

To finish the night, Matt Godson played Taminder. Taminder who used to hit some amazing shots, certainly doesn't seem to have the enthusiasm he has 5-10 years ago, and Matt was well up for taking advantage of this. Matt is quick and hard to break down, and he looked very good last night. Because of our amazing squad and the 2 away player rule, Matt doesn't get as many outings for our team as he deserves. Maybe this performance will see him fight his way into the team more often...

So, the Warrington Wombats are clawing their way back to the top of the league, constantly playing catch-up as most teams have played a match more (as there's an odd number of teams in the league so every week one team has a week off). Next week we are away at Wigan with World No.20, Patrick Rooney expected to play for the home team.
