Report

Report:Unfortunately the top of the table clash saw Liverpool off to the worst possible start - Owain Taylor pulled out after picking up an injury on Monday. The match of the night would have been the in-form Taylor vs our hunky Portuguese World No.61 Rui Soares. Alas, not to be.

Owain's withdrawal meant the whole Liverpool team moved up a place which made life extremely tough for the away team.

All of the squash matches were reasonably straight forward for the Warrington Massive except for at number 5. Carlton Oldham was playing late call-up Cory Harding. Cory is one of the top U17 players in the country but is in the middle of a brutal exam schedule this week at school. Cory started off superbly, hitting his 4 corners of the court very well and finishing rallies with either a nice winner or a (not-so-rare) Carlton mistake into the bottom of the tin. Cory also led for the majority of the second game but Carlton just about managed to stay with the youngster with some lovely volley drops, then pulled away from 8-8 to win a crucial second game for the hosts. Cory's head then imploded with all of the chemistry, maths and history revision swirling around - and offered very little for the next two games. Possibly a lucky escape for Carlton but he maintains his impressive 100% record this season.

The highlight of the night for me was a full crowd singing Happy Birthday to Emily Whitlock. I always relish an opportunity to embarrass Emily so a team match on her 28th birthday offered a lovely opportunity.... Emily very kindly shared her delicious cake with all the players after the match - so it wasn't a completely miserable night for the Liverpool lads after all!

Warrington won 20-1 to leave them over 40 points clear at the top of the table with 3 games of the season remaining. Thanks again to Adrian and Rui making the looooong journey north to entertain us with their awesome array of skills. Next week is a half-term break for the league and Warrington resume on 1st March away at Alderley Edge.
