Report: CRUFC 3 No 2 string David carlisle retired injured at 0-5 in 3rd game

two teams at home so it was a busy, busy night at The Flacca and a boisterous one with the Whitby Boys playing tattenhall 3 on the other court!
The evening started with a humdinger of a contest between Whitehead Junior v Blair II with both dads watching on and providing guidance and encouragement between games.

neither played like their fathers as both gave the ball a boody good whack which on the hot Tattenhall courts made for exciting squash and the front of the court may have been a foreign country with so few drops being played.

nip and tuck and even stevens through the first four games before Prestbury Open U17 Champion Liam hit a rich vein of form to be 10-7 up, But Robbie would dig deep and show remarkable resilience to win 12-10.

after a shaky start Tom would take the first before Ian's slowly, softly catchy monkey style of squash would bamboozle the youngster to even the score. Tom regained his composure playing some steady get ahead, stay ahead squash to win in 4 and the match was all square.

wily old willo started slowly and found hard hitting 'marcus morris lookalike' jimmy just too hot to handle.

Jimmy took the first very comfortably then overcame willo's spirited fightback to edge the second and third by the narrowest of margins to put our guests 2-1 and the scent of their first win of the season was in their nostrils.

BUT Mo would get no change from Max and the match was back to all square

The final rubber would give young Fred Carlisle a bit of a dilemma that no 12 year old should have to face ~ should he cheer for his Tattenhall club mate or his Dad playing for the oppo ?!?

newly crowned U15 Welsh Champion Ethan started strongly to take the first before David, defying the age difference between them would cover every board of the recently refurbished court to push the youngster to 13-11 in the second.

Unfortunately, David suffered a recurrence of a niggling historic calf injury and had to retire at 0-5 in the fifth so the spoils were claimed by the hosts and so to the bar for Jacket Potato, cheese and beans and ..... salad? with Walton and Williams waxing lyrical of long & late Thursday nights playing traditional scoring and having two serves whilst the not so young ones laughed and the younger ones ? well they were still on court !!!!

HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY FOR 23/2 FRED 🎉
