Report

Report: consistent scoring all the way down the card in this odd match with strings 1, 3 and 5 bringing home the bacon for Tattenhall or rather a wonderful home made lasagne with garlic bread !!

home alone so Whitehead senior and whitehead junior got the match underway on adjacent courts with senior taking on a slimmer than ever JD who am i sure will have faded away before the return leg at the end of January.

Liam made a nervous start in his Div 3 debut but once he had found his feet and grew in confidence Smithy needed all of his experience, court craft and a few expletives to fend off the youngster's speed around court and pace of shot.

so contrasting fortunes for the Whitehead family and the match was evenly poised.

Mark produced a man of the match, harem scarem performance to cover every board on the newly refurbished court with some remarkable retrieving and saving game balls in the third game, to put the hosts 2-1 up.

on the other court, four close fought games with no quarter asked and no quarter given as two heavyweights of the game slugged it out to gain control of the T. Willo got ahead but could not stay ahead and hard hitting Craig proved too strong clinching those important points in the 'red zone'. It is just as well that Raffles is so well behaved as on tonight's showing, wily old willo would not have been able to hold on to the lead.

so proper thursday night squash ~ 2-2 in the match, glasses charged on the balcony and No 1 strings chomping at the bit to go on.

Although Tattenhall is one of the closest NWCSL clubs to home, Stokesy may have still had the journey from Sutton Coldfield in his legs as Cobberz raced in to a 2-0 lead.

he may have been unhappy with his new club kit as a change of shirt (much to the disgust of new club sponsors ~ Peel Port Logistics) seemed to bring about a change of fortune with Stokesy taking the third, but with every match having finished 3-1 it was perhaps inevitable that Cobberz would edge the fourth game and secure the bonus points for the hosts

and so to the bar and that excellent lasagne and garlic bread, a few beers and the blue noses on both teams reminiscing about the glory days at Goodison Park which, sadly, were before Liam was born !!

Finally, a journalistic should never reveal their sources but on this occasion a name and shame to Johnny jones who erroneously informed your correspondent that Brookside Squash was Dave Cadwallader's club

Huge apologies to the excellent facilities at Brookside squash and the Pierpoint family for any inconvenience caused by our error although early results do suggest that they will be at the top end of the table. That said, please do not keep us hanging for your results to be posted !!!.
