Report: NWCSL is back !!!

The fixture gods had been unkind to Tattenhall II in pitting them against Paddy Power's pre season favourites to make an immediate return to Div 2, although Dave Cadwallader's Brookside could be the dark horses in this division, particularly as we are all going to have to leave work at 3pm to negotiate the 20mph speed limits to get to Oswestry by 7pm.

with two teams at home it was a busy balcony with friendly banter and referee's calls being interrupted by the occasional bark from Raffles.

Ketts made the short stroll to the club and Youth Coach Whitey brought the 4th team 'court rats' in early so we could make a prompt start, which is just as well as knowing each other's games inside out they produced a magnificent match of see saw squash with Ketts edging a fantastic five setter.

Having missed the majority of last season, it was great to see Frosty back playing although Max might disagree as Frosty started strongly then faltered slightly to be 1-1. the third game was the game of the night with max covering every board on the newly repainted court to lead 10 -8 only for frosty to stamp his authority on the game and four points later had taken the game 12-10. leaving Max completely spent as frosty closed out the match comfortably.

A contrast of styles at Number 5 strings saw dabsy overcome a spirited fightback in the third from Giles and the first team had secured the bonus points.

The North Wales charabanc rolled up shortly after 8pm with Tom nursing a sore elbow but it is 1s v 2s and he wasn;t going to miss this one gingerly winning the first. Hard hitting Joe edged the second but Tom had just enough guile to secure the win and then show that a sore elbow does not stop him sinking a few pints.

Johnny and willo were in the graveyard shirt with Johnny moaning that he had not picked up a racquet since the end of last season .... squash racket that is as he has been playing tennis every day so had lost none of his superb hand / eye coordination,

That said tennis is no real preparation for the tippy tappy squash played by wily old willo who at the third attempt snook the first game before johnny's superior fitness and stamina wore down the old man and the 5-0 win was complete .... happy birthday Johnny or Pemblydd Hapus as they say on your side of the border

so a comfortable win for 1sts, 6 valuable points for 2nds whose season will be not be defined by this local derby and bangers mash peas and onion gravy for supper
