Report: | Last NWCSL Thursday night of 2022 and Christmas dinner was on the menu at the Flacca but first the small matter of a squash match.
last Thursday, at Neston, as we waved a fond farewell to Steve Horabin, he was confident that he would be at Tattenhall this week looking forward to a match up with our own GC, Sadly our guests were rather depleted this evening and Steve would lose 0-3 to Dabsy over at Barnton.
Although Tattenhall have a superb youth policy ( NWCSL Dunlop team of the month for October!) it is not often that Whitey is the young whipper snapper on Thursday evening but tonight he would need to draw upon all his years of NWCSL experience to overcome a spirited comeback from Rod, in the third game and the hosts wee one up.
next a contrast of styles between hard hitting Tom and wily old willo. Nip and tuck in the first three would see willo 2-1 up before Tom stormed to game ball at 10-4, tippy tappy squash saw willo win five points in a row to no avail as Tom held on to win 11-9 and the game was all square.
wily old willo would regain momentum and get ahead and stay ahead in the fifth and Tattenhall were two up,
As has been said before, that would be as good as it would get for our visitors as Joseph. Max and GC were uncompromising in closing the match out without conceding any further games.
Our team of juniors were still going strong on Court 1 so it was a packed balcony that would see Bob 'Zippy' Mills edge a fantastic five setter for Whitby 2 to beat the youngsters 3-2.
and so to Christams Dinner and what a feast ,,,,,,Turkey, Pigs in Blankets, Roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, Carrots and gravy and compulsory three sprouts each for everybody ..... except Rod who left his on the side of his plate much to the chef's chagrin so no pudding for him.
Terry's Chocolate orange cheesecake and gluten fee apple crumble & cream for willo ~ what a way to bring the first half of the season to a close.
Can anybody catch High Flying Holywell ? Can Warrington 4 make 'The Great Escape' ? we'ii start again on Thursday 12th January 2023
merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everybody |
