Report: | Tattenhall No 3 was Graham Cobden
Laurie was beginning to unwind after work and enjoy his evening repast and a night in front of the telly when the call came from ian walton to hotfoot it to Hare Lane where willo having secured a lift to the club and a lift home was itching to get on court.
On the glass back, Alan Williams and Mo Gomes were rolling back the years with some scintillating squash as Delamere Park took on CRUFC 4, so our boys were on court 2.
contrasting styles clashed as wily old willo got ahead only to be dragged back by go go gadget laurie. willo could not convert game ball and Laurie was one up, willo levelled and the match probably turned on the hard fought third with both players squandering game balls before willo prevailed and went on to win the fourth to put the visitors one up in this 'derby' match.
Mo and Alan made way to Graham and Fin on the glass back where Fin was full of cold and would probably not have played if others had not called off before him.
cobbers was just too strong and Tattenhall were two up and a 5-0 win was in their nostrils.
back on court 2 Gareth was having none of this and held his nerve and found himself two up in two very close games.
between games Georgie Boy was receiving guidance from the Ketts, willo, Cobbers brain trust and turned things around to get full value for his match fee to win in five and secure the bonus points for Tattenhall.
for those of us on the balcony our enjoyment of the Gareth v Georgie Boy match was rudely disturbed by a kerfuffle 'stage right' as Carl and Dabsy began to disagree with each other and the marker and for good measure critiscising the court. between the conversations some superb squash broke out which was hugely enjoyed by an appreciative crowd as the Delamere Park v CRUFC 4 match was drawing to a close. see saw squash brought the match to 2-2 before Carl at match ball overcame a spirited fight back from dabsy and the 0-5 was averted.
As mentioned many, many times there is no such thing as a dead rubber in NWCSL Thursday night squash and tonight was definitely the case as the gallery with glasses charged witnessed some fantastic squash
Ric edged the first by owning the front of the court and smothering Ketts short game then it was nip and tuck in the second as cries of 'he doesn't want it' could be heard from the gallery but Ketts dug deep to level the match.
both players seemed to cover every board on the court but Ketts drawing on years of experience began to dominate with devasting drives dying in the forehand back corner which rather like Amen corner in the Masters is now known as 'Ketts corner' !!! and secured a wonderful win for the visitors which was followed by a few beers and a magnificent lamb curry
tattenhall head towards their four week break having had two throuroughly enjoyable competitive matches, won one , lost one and looking at other results it appears that this is going to be a rather close division ..... see you in November !!
