Report: | Max Harper retired injured at the end of the third game
NWCSL is back and our significant others have their Thursday nights to themselves. Sadly after 45 years Cheshire Officers no longer have teams in the league as our host club have converted a squash court in to a dance studio / martial arts dojo meaning that their players are now at Mollington, Chester Rugby Club and some like your correspondent have made the short journey down the A41 to Tattenhall who now have four teams using their two courts so some late, late nights ahead !
if i may just say a huge thank you to Keith Flanigan and Graham Hill for their dedicated service as they hang up their competitive squash rackets ,
willo was first one to open the new season with a 'three and out' win, having overcome a spirited fight back from Chris in the third game.
Mark drafted in from third team nbattled valiantly but Simon was too strong and levelled the match.
Max had injured his ankle playing the dangerous sport of cricket when he stumbled (stone cold sober .... apparently) over the bounday rope, tonight as he got to match ball and with Jim nowhere near him he turned his other ankle. upon landing after going airborne to volley his winner to take him to match ball, three of which were not taken advantage of leaving Max to shake hands and concede the match 1.- 2. to our guests
see saw squash saw George and Stu get to 2-2 and would continue in the fifth as Stu went ahead, George drew level at 10 - 10 but Stu would dig deep to secure the win and take the bonus points down the M56 to Woolston
Although a night on the pop and a three hour drive from Milton keynes is not ideal preparation for squash. ketts was just too strong for John to bring proceedings to a close.
Ketts and willo need not be too disheartened by the loss as Woolston won Div 3NW at a canter and having lost in the first round of Div 3 play offs have been on a recruitment campaign to hopefully avoid an immediate return to Divsion 3 which means that Paddy Power have made woolston 2 second favourites behind Wrexham Brymdo to win Div 3sw.
Pork steaks, mashed potato, peas and carrots washed down with a beverage or two and some was a wonderful supper as we look forward to the local derby at Chester Rugby next week ....oh it is so good to be back !!!
