Report

Report:Despite 2 of their regular players being unavailable due to other commitments (some might say letting the side down boys), the Tattenhall youngsters travelled to Whitby full of confidence following their narrow win over Lymm the previous week. For the first time this season Tattenhall enlisted the services of a non-junior.........old man Joe (23!!!!) stepped into the side for his first ever NWCSL match.

The Whitby boys looked positively aged in comparison, but, their was a definite air of experience around them.

Once again there was a big crowd and a great atmosphere.

First on was Joe v Martin. Joe showed no signs of first match nerves and and was up and running from the start. Martin played some nice shots, but, Joe showed great athleticism in covering the court and grew into the match taking it 3-0.

Next on was young Chris, promoted to no 4 string. He was evenly matched against Luke Jones. The first game was a tight affair with Chris edging it. Chris took the 2nd game and it looked like the match was swinging Tattenhall's way. But, Luke started to hit the ball harder to get it past Chris and take the next 2 games to the match to the 5th set. Chris battled hard, but, couldn't get back in front and Luke edged it 15-11.

Then Liam went up against the hard hitting Matt. Matt was a little worried knowing Liam had improved from the previous season. Initially Liam ran away with a few points and things looked good, but, as soon as Matt started smashing his drives to the back he proved too strong for Liam. 3-0 to Whitby and Tattenhall on the back foot.

Ethan was up next at No 2 string against the wily campaigner Steve Jones. It was a close first game. But Ethan was struggling to find his length and width and Steve was putting in drop shots with pin point accuracy. Steve went two up. Ethan then really stepped up his game and worked hard to win the 3rd game. Was Steve about to crack..........No...... He refound his lob length and drop to take the 4th.

Could young Tom win back some glory for Tattenhall at no 1 string. His opponent, Jimmy, looked big and slow. But boy could Jimmy play some nice squash. He displayed some excellent racket skills. Tom battled hard and won the 2nd game, but, he couldn't keep the ball away from Jimmy's racket enough and Jimmy won the match.

Honours to Whitby in a very competitive evening. Hopefully a learning experience for Tattenhall's juniors.

Off to the bar for a coke and some chilli.
