Report

Report: So last match before Christmas and a trek out to Alsager, a cute little place and all Christmassy with even Santa driving the down the high street when we arrived. Good work from Ian to get us there safe and sound.
Pete was already there having come from down south and already losing 1-0...his Hernia injury playing up again...some excuse. To be fair he dug deep to level it but Mike was a real tricky opponent and managed to snatch the win 3-1 with Pete looking washed out at the end. Not a great start.
Next up Dave V Tom, and what a start Dave made going 2-0 up and even having 3 match balls in the 3rd, but Tom dug deep and pinched the game to save the match. So would that come back to haunt Dave... YES after getting battered in the 4th to go 2-2, Dave had areal scare in the 5th early on turning an ankle but continued anyway. It was nip and tuck and again Dave had 2 match balls at 11-10 and 12-11, but failed again... it was to be Toms night with a brilliant come back win well done Tom!
So 2-0 down a new position for the Old Bastards. We sent on mr reliable Matt to steady the ship, and despite a close looking match and some great resilience from John in the 3rd Matt came home with a good 3-0 and put Woolston back in the game.
Another reliable player having a good season John Boy Finn on next. Could he keep Woolston on target for an unlikely comeback win. Well thankfully yes he could with probably his best win of the season to date 3-0 against a handy Phil at number 4. So all square could it be 3-2.
A big test for Ian against Keith. A very close hard fought game went Keiths way 11-9. But Ian cam storming back 11-2 to level, it could be better balanced. But Ian had paid the penalty for that long hard first game and Keith showed better legs to cruise to another 2 games and take the match 3-1 with a close 3-2 overall. A great match and tightened everything up at the top again.
Decent points in the bag despite the loss and 10 points banked.
Have to say a very warm welcome in the pub at Alsager and fantastic spread of food spoiling us for Christmas!
