Report

Report:Well this was to be Woolston Old Bastards first big test of the season at fellow Promotion fancied Alderley Edge 3.
The first match was Nş3's Steve V Pete "Harold" Kelly.
What an epic match it proved to be, Steve with all the Tennis skills taking a tight first game 12-10, and also the second 11-9, was this to be Pete's first defeat of the season, after him setting up the Direct Debit for the £ in Competition? But with age comes experience and 3 more momentous games saw him snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Next up was the big character George versus former skipper and now John "youngboy" Finn. John cruised to a comfortable 2-0 lead with his tricky serves bamboozling a non too impressed George. But to be fair he fought back well and grabbed the 3rd game. Could John Boy up his game again to take the win, yes is the answer in a tight 4th game. So 2-0 Woolston, but it wasn't over yet...
Next up New Dad Steve against Squash Billy Matt!
Matt took a brutal and very tight first game, but Steve came storming back with relentless power and length, which started to take it's toll on Matts legs. He did his best to overcome fatigue in the 4th game but the damage was done and Steve brought home the bacon 3-1.
So could Jim bring home the points for Woolston, not tonight, he paid the penalty of the night befores excessive Works night out with Andy taking advantage like a tom cat playing with a mouse. An emphatic 3-0 win, so all square at 10pm and numbers 2's Adam and Dave to play the decider. Adam to be fair coming back from a long lay off with knee trouble, but still well capable of taking the victory with his shot play. Dave was up for it though and used his superior fitness levels to wear Adam down, as well as Adam having a couple of worrying moments when he jarred the poorly knee. But 3-0 it ended and an important victory to Promotion chasing Woolston Old Bastards 1.
Great match gents and a thoroughly enjoyable evening, with good company and good food, topped off with the beer tab at the bar!
