| Report: | Woolston unveiled their shiny New Old Boys, if that makes sense. A strong summer transfer window has seen the arrival of Matt Uren, Pete Kelly and injured currently Ian Tennant. So a possible banana skin at always competitive Warrington 3.
Pete first on against young talent Arees Talib, and Pete's experience showed, cruising to a quick 3-0 victory.
Next on was Dave V old rival Stu Tudor, it didn't start well for ring rusty Stu, actually getting a bagel in the first game. But he came storming back to lose a tight game 12-10 and also a close 3rd 11-9 but a much better showing from him. John "JohnnyBoy" Finn on for the 4th string match against another close rival Rick. John looking comfortable in the first only to leave the door open and Rick taking the 2nd to level. John got back on the gas in the next game and looked to be cruising to victory, but fair play Rick he dug in hard in what proved to be the final game marginally losing 14-12 in a thrilling game.
So Woolston had the match but could they bag maximum points.
Matt and Kev up next and Matt looked to be smoothing his way for a 3-0 win after taking the first 2 11-5. Although Kev really dug in and won an exciting 3rd game 11-9. Game on. Kev should really have won his second game leading 9-7 but Matt framed a lucky tight shot to give him a point and serve, which he won and the match 3-1.
On last was super sub Jim, against an unpredictable Gregg. Nothing flustered Jim, he was comfortably the classier player, easing thru all 3 games with plenty in the Tank Sir!
So a full house and 20 points for the on paper promotion seeking Woolston Old B8stards outfit, a good start gents! |
