Report

Report:First home game of the season for Whitby 1st and we made it a good one! Hosting Holywell.

Straight on at 7 bells was of course our beer monster Hembo who was up against his frequent rival in this fixture Mike Plumb and was trying to extract some revenge from last season’s defeat. He must have remembered it as he went out all guns blazing to annihilated Mike in the 1st game 11-1 before Mike got up from the canvas dusted himself off fighting back making the game 2-2 and into the final game we go. Nothing left in it for these 2 at 11-11 the match was so thrilling we couldn’t get the other games marker to turn away from it. Finally Hembo pulled off his ropa dope finish hanging in there and taking the game 13-11 and giving Whitby all 3 points.

On the other court was our ever fresh marine Dave v’s hard hitting Chris. Dave made a great start to the game but Chris caught him out in the 2nd one showing Dave you can’t take him lightly give him a sniff and he’ll kill the ball. Lesson learnt by Dave who tightened up the play to finish off Chris 3-1, good game by both.

Next up was Charlie and as Jason Shill was too scared to show up it was Lamb to the Slaughter Stu who had to take the lesson instead. Fair play to Stu he took it well and seen it for what it was, a chance to work on his fitness. Easy work for Charlie but decent at time from Stu well played.

Next on was John still struggling from the weekend and on the verge of divorce from his wife, would make our Whitby losing bet we have easy to handle I suppose. He was up against the returning Tim who found getting on court like riding a bike and went straight into full flow sending John the wrong way time after time I’m not sure even Tim knew which way he was going to hit the ball. Tim takes the first game and John needs to step up which thankfully he did taking back control of the court and the next 3 game to make it 4-0 to Whitby on the night.

Last but not least was Shaun v Lindsey. Shaun was expecting more down the lines and rallying from Lindsey but thankfully for Shaun she didn’t allowing fitness not to be a part of the game and barely seeing a rally longer than 3 shots occur, perfect squash for Shaun who nip tucked the ball in the corners and seen off the game easily 3-0.

So good 20 points for Whitby and into the bar for some cheap tin highly process “Chicken” curry and rice. Great to see the Holywell crew great company as always look forward to the reverse fixture.
