Report

Report:Another double header at The Whitby tonight with both teams at home creating a good atmosphere on the balcony who were a very strong Heswell 4.

First on court was long absentee Seb v Matt. Matt flew out the gates with good drive & drop combos to take the 1st & leaving Seb scratching his head a bit but he then remembered what he was supposed to do with the racket and quickly turned the tables seeing the match out 1-3.

Next up was John and Ian. 1st game John managed to get a significant lead and then just had to wait nervously for Ian to make enough mistakes to give him the win, similar story with the 2nd game then finally it was tit for tat in the 3rd with John coming out on top.

3rd match was a battle of the Old Guards in Shaun and Colin. If I was to show you a heat map of the court where there had been movement it would look more like a blank piece of paper with neither player having to stretch their legs very much and just letting their racket skills do all the work. Sadly for us Colin’s were better and he seen the match out 0-3.

So 2-1 down and we turn to our star player Charlie for inspiration which he shown in abundance. Charlie didn’t give Craig any sign or hope that he might get anything from this match with a controlled display of brilliance to make it 2-2 on the night.

Final showing tonight was Matt v (Super) Dave who, last min due to a drop out answered the distress call and bailed Whitby out by driving 4.5 hours to get on court at 8:30. After already playing 4 matches (he obviously took it easy and saved his best for last) he took the game to Matt and never once let up with excellent drives to keep Matt firmly at the back and taking the ball early on the volley to keep him under pressure he brought home the bacon for The Whitby Boys!

So 3-2, very good matches by all and into the bar for drinks and Curry. Brilliant to see the Heswell gang & we’ll sort something out for the summer time.
