Report

Report:Whitby plays host to local rivals Brook Hotels tonight on a surprisingly warmish court.
With both Whitby teams at home & just the 1 court available it was going to be a long but entertaining night.

First up was Shaun & Sam with Shaun using Sams power against him in the 1st leaving Sam stranded at the back. 2nd Game Sam was much more switched on taking the ball early and leaving the ball at the front of the court levelling the game. Shaun quick to respond switched tactics and brought the lob into play to devastating effect and seeing the game out 3-1.

Next up Hembo v Chris and Hembo was out the blocks like a rocket taking the 1st game with ease I think Chris thought they were still on the knock up. That soon changed in the 2nd when Chris came to life to remind Hembo this is not going to be easy. Hembo realising this is going to delay his drinking time pushed hard to stay on top and just about got over the line to take the next two and enjoy his well earned Brewdog.

So Whitby 2-0 up and on court John (don’t call it a come back) v Mike. Not much between any of these games and John being made to work twice as hard for the points than Mike took an early lead. Scared to death of losing (again!) and allowing Mike to get forward John powered through to see the match out 3-0 and give Whitby the spoils of war.

Next on court is the showpiece Charlie v Jamie which always promises to be entertaining viewing. Jamie playing brilliantly gave a lot in the first game and had a game point making Charlie dig deep to prevent an early shock. Rallies were brilliant and Jamie gave it his all but with his legs and energy levels letting him down Charlie seen out the rest of the match comfortably.

Final game saw the ever-reliant Andy v John. Unfortunately after taking the first game Andy who has been playing all season on 1 good(ish) leg picked up an injury yet still carried on allowing John to take the 2nd. Andy not ready to give up went back on in the 3rd game but looked like a poor dog that just needed putting down with the whole balcony watching on with sympathy. Finally, Andy saw sense and called it. Get some rest mate and come back stronger.

So good win for Whitby and great company from the Brook lads, of to the bar for Chicken Curry and Rice and some shots of Rum!
