| Report: | you never really know who will turn up playing for New Brighton ....you can guarantee that there will be a Thomason, a Munn, Fireman Karl and two others from Finney, Reed and Long.
This evening it was two Thomasons, Chris Munn in place of his injured brother, Fireman Karl and with Jason in Budapest sporting his birthday tattoo it was Sam Finney making more comebacks than Sinatra !!!
Repairs had been carried out yesterday to make Court 1 fit for action so it was the two chunky blokes who got things going on Court 2 and the awkward left handers who would be on Court 1.
Chris and Willo played nicey, nicey see saw squash to get to 2-2 but it was willo who would get ahead and stay ahead to put the hosts one up.
On court 1 it was not a match for the purists but it was great entertainment. Jacko seemed dead and buried at 0-2 and 8-10 but would save 5 match balls and squander two game balls before prevailing 16-14, then storming off to win the fourth and square the match....... unfortunately, this was really to be as good as it would get for CCO as Karl ran off with the fifth to level the match score.
Graham, Toughmudder and Frostie played valiantly but only Graham would secure a point as the New Brighton stalwarts, Mark, Ian and Sam would ensure that 19 points would be heading home down the M53 but only after a superb supper consisting of China Garden banquet, cheese and biscuits and profiteroles which had proved too much for the Alpha Course meeting in the function room at Fortress CCO ..... Hallelujah ! |
