Report

Report: A full strength Rugby Club team made the short journey along the A41 for this derby encounter and with Charlie (torn shoulder ligaments after two weeks in Vietnam) and Joseph ( more ailments than a Junior doctor's textbook) likely to both be out until Christmas this was as good as it gets for CCO.

willo and Kieran got the match off to a prompt start. Back in the day, willo used to struggle against Kieran's dad's delicate style of squash so Kieran must get his fierce but controlled style of squash from his mother. Suffice to say it was too good for willo and our guests were one up and thoughts were that we might need to order the Chinese for 9pm.

There are three hundred year old sequoia trees with trunks that are not as thick as Steve Glenton's thighs and for a big chap he was moving around court like a youngster.Graham was just back off two weeks holiday (in the squash season …. GRRRR!) but was playing as if he had never been away and edged the first game. Steve breezed through games 2 and 3 and we were preparing to dial the Chinese takeaway. perhaps Graham was just taking a breather or was it a siesta as he stormed back to be 10 - 7 up in the fourth. Steve fought back to 10 -10 from when both players played some superb squash and to cries of ' he doesn't want it' from the balcony some absolute howlers. Steve held his nerve and our guests were two to the good.

Joe and Frostie have crossed swords many, many times from when both were in junior ranks (when Adam were a lad !) All encounters have, allegedly, been close and tonight was no exception with some scintillating squash being played by both players. Frostie edged the first and missed out on converting a game ball in the second as Joe took a very tight second and then seemed to have wrestled control of the game as he took the third and found himself 9-7 up in the fourth. However, tremendous resistance from Frostie saw him take four points in a row and to a deafening roar from the crowd (louder than the boogie bounce music in the next door dance studio) the match was level. But, the fifth proved to be a game too far for Frostie which Joe won comfortably and the bonus points were heading off down the A41 in the boot of Kieran's Car.

at No 2 seed , Lewis and Nigel replicated the effort and commitment shown by Frostie and Joe and sadly the score was replicated too.

as the clock ticked slowly past 10pm, Rick and Dave took the court, neither showing fatigue from the long wait on the balcony. more tight games and excellent squash but once again our visitor proved too strong and for CCO 6 points seemed scant reward for their valiant efforts.

and so from the prompt start, this ended up being the longest night so far. Never mind ~ off to the bar where the China Garden banquet was waiting for beer and bantah and for CCO the prospect of a daunting trip down A540 to Neston next week.

PS ~ How about a night out in Chester on Thursday 19th December ? …… watch this space !
