Report

Report:CCO thought that with Barnton only having one team at home this would be the perfect opportunity to travel 'old school' ie the majority of the team in one car ! but traffic delays with willo leaving work on the business park meant that like Northern Rail the CCO charabanc was quickly behind schedule but unlike Northern Rail did arrive eventually.

We had hoped that Lee and Mike might have taken to the court for some pre-match practice and tire themselves out. but they are both too wise and too experienced to fall for that ruse.

Eric got off to a roaring start and found himself two up very quickly before Nige regained some composure, overcoming a warning for slow play ( in the fifth set Crossy? when the combined age of the players is over 110 .... slow play???) to steal a victory for the guests.

on the other court, Appo rolled back the years to save three game balls and take an early lead. The roles were reversed in the second as Jamie came from behind to even the match then sprinted ahead to take the third and overcome a spirited fightback from Appo in the fourth to level the match score.

12-10 in the first probably flattered wily old willo or perhaps he had just taken advantage of Lee having been hanging around for over an hour. Lee was back to his swashbuckling best in the second and third and the hosts were ahead and confident of extending their unbeaten start to the season.

press the pause button ..... like two heavyweight boxers Dave and iain slugged it out with Dave just edging ahead in each game and the match was back to all square.

Thursday night squash at it's best, 2-2, glasses charged on the balcony and still only 9pm.

Tony had been selling sand to the Arabs this week so had only touched down from Abu Dhabi at 3pm, covered every single board of the underfloor heated court to no avail as Crossy, coolly and calmly secured the win and the bonus point for our hosts.

So a late start but a very early finish and plenty of time to enjoy the hospitality of the champions elect whose Indian meal is becoming the 'hottest ticket in town'
