Report: So first game back after the deborchery of Christmas and which team was less out of shape, it would be a close run thing with Matt, Pete and Sean having had a good Christmas!
An early 6:00pm start was arranged so that the boys could watch the massive premier league footy of City V Liverpool at 8pm.
So first on and using 2 courts for a change, were John V Stu court 6 and Dave V Mal on court 5.
A very close first game and a gruel for them Mal took the first 14-12. But this seemed to work Daves resolve and he stormed back bringing his drop shot more into play with Mal unable to read it and get forward enough, which saw Dave come thru 3-1 in the end.
On the other (freezing) court John was doing battle with Stu, it was tight affair with close games until at 2-1 up John took his Man brain out and got battered 11-1! Not great preparation for a win in the 5th but he regained his composure and sorted it out to win the match with an 11-5 victory so Old Bastards in a comfy warm bath of a 2-0 lead.
Court 6 was quickly discarded as being too cold.
Next on were Tris and Sean, a tough match for the ever likeable Tris, and Sean took no mercy seeking another pound in victory... with a convincing 3-0 dropping just 12 points! Match won it was about getting maximum points now for Woolston.
Pete coming back from his Hernia injury or was it dropped bollocks we were not too sure.
His old Village team mate Greg was not going to spoil the party, with Petes racket skills too much for a well Christmassed Greg! 3-0 in short time.
Last on was supposed to be Matt V Jonny Morcom which after the first half match look like a mouth watering tie... but Jonny got waylaid again at work or was that the pub on his way home! So substitute Rick dropped in and even though he was on a hiding to nothing with a far classier opponent he did well, and managing to get enough points to mean the Ģin comp was a rollover!
So 20 points importantly for the Table topping Woolston, a great night even though City won 2-1.
And a first too with Dave last out of the club having to be poured thru his letter box by Malcom after too much San Miguel
