Report:So The big derby match... Woolston Old Bastards V Woolston 2, sorry boys forgot your nickname!

Week 9 and unbelievably it wasn't Matt's birthday this week so he was going to be last on as he was driving for a change... thanks for the lift

So first on was our mercurial Mr 'Nik' Ian V ever the workhorse Andy. Always gonna be a tough one for Andy with Ians incredible racket skills, but Andy's engine was gonna be his secret weapon. Ian started well taking the first game with some stunning shots. The 2nd was a much closer affair with Andy giving it everything only to narrowly lose 12-10. But all of Andys hard work had taken its toll in that game and Ian suffered his customary mid match slump. 2-2... But the whily old fox Ian was just resting and and came storming back with some sensational niks to slide thru the victor.

Next on the Legend of John Trainer V John Boy Finn, on paper this was an easy victory for Finn especially after taking the first game. But The Legend was up to his usual clever antics, lets, Fishing for strokes and doing his legendary hard glare serves. It worked too after a titanic battle he came out victor to level it. The hard work took effect and John Finn came storming back 11-5, looking good to steal it. But Legend won a close 4th to go to the tie break game, which was another war but John Finn scraped home...phew!

Sean V Simon the big guns on 3rd... Sean obviously favourite having played at much higher lever in the last few years. But Si is always a smooth operator and has incredible talent. Well it didn't look like that talent was going to help as Sean quickly took a very easy 2-0 lead. But thats when Si is dangerous...as he proved taking the 3rd, the highlight after Sean had hit a backhand return of serve which rolled out of the Nik, only for Si to do exactly the same on his next return, classy squash indeed. But the effort required by Simon to take that game had him cooked and Sean rattled the win off with an 11-2 slam dunk.

So the match safely in Woolston 1's hands, could they complete the 20 points?
Well Skipper Dave V Christian and a rivalry 15 years old on court now. A close first game saw Dave take it 11-9 after many a long rally. Now thoroughly warmed up dave clicked upa gear to take the 2nd more comfortably 11-4. But Christian is a fighter if nothing else, and sneaked the 3rd 11-9. It was a stay of execution though and another smooth game saw Dave take the win.

So NOT birthday boy Matt on against a tired, overworked Jim last on. Surely Matts class and immense workrate would be too much for Jim? And with £10 in a £ in rollover was at stake, Matt never needs a second invitation to take the money... Boom, boom boom and it was over with Jim continuously boasting tight lengths back with Matt was all over at the front. Sadly Jim was a shadow of his usual self, complaining of having had to get out of bed at a ludicrous 9am early start being the culprit of his form!

So another 20 points for the Old Bastards, but a credible 6 point haul to help stave off the threat of relegation for the 2nds. Great night and the highlight has got to be The Legend of John Trainer trying every tactic in his repertoire to overcome Finn!
