Report

Report:With a run on paper of very winnable matches Woolston Old Bastards needed to press on in search of 20 points.

Northern 4 came to the club in search of their own points to move up the table.

First on AGAIN was Matt, who is making a habit of getting the drinks in early. All went to plan as his late boast, Lob serve and overall tightness was just too much for Matt, who worked his socks off to be fair. Things got a little interesting in the 3rd and what was to be last game. Matt took an early lead and held it right up to point of game ball but Matt would not give in and ran out 12-10 for a handsome 3-0 win.

Next up and on early for a change was Ian “Braveheart” Tennant. Another very fit opponent Lucas proved stubborn but Ian pinched a very tight 1st game. Ian seemed to have sussed it though winning the next one easily, but Lukasz had different ideas and stormed back against a noticeably tiring Braveheart, to level at 2-2.
The big crowd was in for a treat though. Lukasz took an early commanding lead and the writing looked to be on the wall at 8-2, with Ian looking spent. But you can never write him off and some fantastic nick shots brought him almost level at 9-10 and serving. Well Shot of the season contender appeared as Ian did a roundhouse serve which completely baffled his opponent, who tried a forehand, then back hand then a recovery off the back wall and finally asked for a let when the ball eventually beat him. So 10-10 and the shock of that serve seemed to be the end of the Northern player and Ian won the match 12-10.
Fantastic action and bravery at match ball down!

Pete on next, and the difference in fitness and class really told, as Roger fought bravely but Peters tightness and Match night face were too good for him. The scores looked respectable but only 1 winner here at 3rd string.
3-0 to Pete.

The match then won, John went on with just the task of keeping the team on target for 20 points. His usual lapse in concentration came early on losing the first. But he stormed back emphatically taking it to level with 11-1 second game win. The next games were very comfortable for John coming gin 3-1 winner.

Last on was Skipper Williams, who was raring to go and keen to keep his 100% record. Well despite a willing opponent in Steve the opposing skipper, the gulf in quality was too wide. Despite a valiant fight in the 3rd taking it to sudden death, Dave brought home the 5-0 result and another 20 points for the Old Bastards!

And to top it off Malcolm at the club had cooked up a fabulous Thai Red Curry for the boys, lovely!
