Report:Final home game of the season and I find myself reminiscing back to the start and all the class nights we’ve had at the club. From Hembo walking aimlessly around the car park before his game had finished because he was annoyed at going on last and hearing the word Stroke from the marker or the female darts fan who decided to strip and walk around the bar topless (prob my personal favourite night). Then there was the Christmas night that turned into the Christmas night and day for some of us with some festive darts and a couple of baggles. Second half we saw the biggest home turnout of supporters for top of the table clash v Chester with people struggling to get a front row view on the balcony as we claimed top spot. A few class away trips as well notably Tattenhall and Crewe were a few of our wives were sacrificed to our opponents but not as often as last season it must be said. God help them next season I may as well get the revolving door fitted now.

But tonight, is about the here and now and Tattenhall have travelled to their favourite cold courts on the NWCS circuit and showed up more promptly than the home team they must be eager to get back home.

Up first was John v Craig. John who lost his top last week at Crewe had to borrow the boob tube top from Shaun restricting his movement on court but offering support to his moobs. Didn’t distract Craig who got going quite well early on getting himself in front of John and killing it in the corners. John had to step up the tempo and get the ball further back in the court which he managed to do quite well in the end restricting Craig to back court boast which John took full advantage of to capture the first game. Second game was more of the same with both players extending the rallies rather than risk a loose drop vying for position like a chess match. Lucky despite his growing man tits (I need to get the gym) John still has plenty of stamina in the tank and was able to combat whatever Craig threw at him to see the match out comfortably 3-0.

Next on was old school team mates Charlie and Willo who was returning to favourite courts 😊 Cold courts and Charlie was all too much for Willo and despite his very deceiving style of play couldn’t really lay a glove on Charlie who like every horse I didn’t back in Cheltenham romped home to victory.

Next on was Dave v Harvey and the riskiest match up from our point of view with 2 very similar playing styles. They may be cold courts but that ball was white hot after these 2. Harvey was first to get to grips with his lengths getting it to the back of the court whilst Dave struggled getting past half court allowing Harvey to take an early lead. Similar scenario being played out on the second and Harvey was bossing the tee but the Hoff being the Hoff was not going down without a fight and when he clicks into Baywatch mode there’s no stopping him and he prevented a game point to take it to the tie break and came through an early scare. The next 2 games Dave took full control and Harvey, struggling to keep up with the pace of play fell behind and despite a few soft decisions going his way from the marker it wasn’t enough to prevent Dave from triumphing when we needed him, taking the match and the bonus points for Whitby.

Next on was Joe Wicks sorry McGoldrick up against an ever-tricky Mark. Wow what can I say, didn’t see that coming. Of course, Joe was always the favourite going into this tie but he made it look like a grade 1 versus a grade 5 in the Gold Cup. Joe absolutely demolished him, effortlessly. After winning 3-0 in record breaking time he had enough left in the tank to play another friendly feeder match after it. Well Played.

Last on and still riding the wave of recent epic performances was Shaun v Graham. Toughest clash of the night but for all the wrong reasons. Despite a strong start and taking the first with ease Shaun fell away in the 2nd falling victim to Grahams mid court boast to make it 1-1. Back to business in the 3rd for Shaun who’s lobs into the back of the court were too good for Graham to retrieve. Then we started seeing some silly squash and some even sillier asks with Graham thinking he could defy gravity and reach a ball almost touching the ceiling for him to ask for a stroke. Despite the comical asks the marker stuck to his guns and refereed the game to division 2 standard and it would be the better squash from Shaun that would prevail and allow Whitby all 20 points stretching their lead at the top by 1 point and securing our promotion in to division 3 for next season.

Well Done chaps 1st goal of the season achieved with 2 games spare.

So back to the bar earlier than we expected for some well-earned pints and Chicken Curry which has fallen out of me quicker than my money is going to leave my bank account on Gold Cup Day.

Well done Tattenhall who showed up with a weaker than usual squad and made a great effort. We’ll see the young guns next season.
