Report

Report: Tough tie at Whitby tonight as we entertain fellow promotion challengers Neston 4 and the calm before the storm of next weeks double header Christmas extravaganza. No time to party here, its down to business on court 1.

Straight of it's the top tier squash of Charlie v old Whitby deserter Cameron. Charlie feeling a bit stiff after his cat nap before getting to the club took a while to loosen up and Cameron took advantage of that by getting him self some easy points on the board. Surely enough Charlie woke up and dare I say it, broke a sweat to ensure the match was taken care of 3-0.

Next on was Dave v tried and tested Neston stalwart Andy. It took a few games for them to adjust to each other’s contrasting styles and looked like we might have a proper match on our hands at 1-1 before Andy tightened up down the lines and dominated centre court to take the win 3-1 and level us on the night.

Next on and as eager as ever to get on the beers was Hembo taking on Matt Styles. This was a battle of the asks with neither getting their way from the markers (Plural it took two of us to sort this game out) creating 2 very angry little squash players on court. Dummies were spat and toys were thrown out but the standard of squash was still decent and the battle was a great spectacle especially when it was tied at 2-2. It was all down to who could get angriest & want it more and surprisingly it was our very own joker Hembo who was able to edge it. Great game lads.

With a late injury call to Shaun it was down to Matt to step up and take on a tough opponent in Darren. Matt relished the challenge and took the game to Darren in superb fashion covering the tee box well and using his backhand to devastating effect making it 1-0 in a tie break. It was always going to be tough ask to beat Darren who found himself in a proper battle just about nicking the 2nd 9-11 and the 3rd in a tie break. All that effort put in by Matt was paying off as Darren’s legs started to remind him of his age and with the extra home support Matt pushed through his own pains to level the match and finally see out the 5th comfortably to ensure Whitby take the bonus points.

Last on was an old encounter reignited between John and Rob. Plenty of respect between these two players and always entertaining for the fans as we just like hitting the ball as hard as we can to the back of the court a lot. All close games with John just keeping his nose in front before a little wobble in the 3rd made it interesting. The hard work done by Rob in the 3rd was also undone by Rob in the 4th as he started gifting John too many tin shots. John wanting to get off court asap was only too happy to receive them and finished off the night with a 3-1 win.

So a comfortable 4-1 & 18 points on paper but it was anything but comfortable. The score lines flatter Whitby a little bit and do not do Neston justice well played lads.

Back to the bar for a rather surprisingly good Chicken Curry and rice and some tuna sandwiches’ for someone to take home to their Cat?
Be sure to tune in next week for the Whitby Christmas Special!!!!
